Hunting Safaris in the Eastern Cape, South Africa

Hunting Safaris Concessions / hunting areas in the Eastern Cape:

• Cradock and Bedford Concessions about 5000 acres each.
• Graaff Reinet about 12 000 acres.
• Also, numerous other concessions from the Karoo to the Coast.

Cradock and Graaff Reinet, the Karoo, are more hilly and rocky terrain with large open plains and colder winters than Bedford and the coast. The coast has milder weather, and more thick bushy areas. All our areas are not strenuous to hunt and have 10 – 20 species per area, and the game numbers are good.
Altitude is about 4000 feet in the Karoo and Bedford about 2000 feet.
The Karoo is about 4 hours drive from PE.

• First, take your rifles to your local customs office and get a US 4457 form for your rifle/s
• US 4457 is a certificate of registration for personal effects taken abroad, used to show proof of prior possession and ownership of articles in the USA. Other countries have a similar form.
• Passport – must be at least 6 months still valid and send a copy with your US4457 to my email.
• SAPS 520 form – I or Afton will email you a blank form. Complete only relevant sections in BLACK ink (you will also get an example form showing only the sections you need to complete). • MR X is the famous Afton rep doing JNB airport meet and greet and getting your rifle permit for you, cell number is +27 76 106 3359
• Write a Letter of Intent, eg I …full names and surname as in your passport…, intend to hunt plains game in South Africa using my rifles: (list your rifles), with Lalase Maso in the Eastern Cape. Fill in your full address, email and phone number. Then sign the letter in writing in black ink and Email to me.
• Invitation letter by Lalase, your outfitter and PH – This will be emailed from us directly to you and to Afton, once we get all the above documents.

When you arrive back home, your customs may want to charge you import tax on valuable items, Rifles, scopes, binoculars, etc, so these should all be listed on the same or separate customs US4457 form to safeguard you from import taxes.

Important notes re your flights INSIDE SA:

• Airlink and Flysafair require rifles to be pre-booked on  4Zrevenuecontrol@flyairlink.com
• Safair firearms to be booked on their website – THIS IS THE HUNTER’S RESPONSIBILITY
• 72 hours before check-in, information needed: flight confirmation number and details of the firearms. 
• Airline requires ammo to be in a separate, lockable box and checked separately from rifle/s.

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS –

• Many Airlines carry rifles and ammo. Delta seems to be the main one used from the USA to SA. Fly into JOHANNESBURG O.R. TAMBO AIRPORT (JNB OR ) or CAPE TOWN  CP )
• Afton meets you and gets your rifle permit and then takes care of you for the night at Afton guest lodge, which is very near the airport. Afton will take you to check in for your flight to PE / PLZ the next morning. Check your PE pick up time by LMHS before you book flights – we can advise if your flight itinerary works before you book any flights.
• Work on pick up time in PE/PLZ of 8-9 am so you can get a possible afternoon hunt in, or at least have time to check your rifles on the target range at the hunting concession.
